Like = "similar to" (คล้ายกับ) หรือ 'the same as' (เหมือนกับ) โปรดระวังว่าจะใช้ as ในความหมายดังต่อไปนี้ไม่ได้
- What a beautiful house! It's like a place. (ไม่ใช่ 'as a place')
- What does Sandra do? 'She's a teacher, like me.' (ไม่ใช่ 'as me')
- Be careful! The floor has been polished. It's like walking on ice. ไม่ใช่ 'as walking'
- It's raining again. I hate weather like this. ไม่ใช่ 'as this'
ในประโยคข้างต้นนั้น like เป็น preposition ดังนั้น จึงตามด้วย noun เช่น like a place
หรือ pronoun เช่น like me/ like this หรือ -ing Ex. like walking
คุณอาจจะใช้ like ในลักษณะ 'like (somebody/ something) doing sth. ก็ได้
Ex. 'What's that noise? 'It sounds like a baby crying' เสียงเหมือนกับเด็กร้องไห้
บางครั้ง like มีความหมายว่า 'for example' หรือ เป็นต้นว่า
Ex. Some sports, like motor racing, can be dangerous.
Such as ก็มีความหมาย 'for example' ด้วย เช่น
Ex. Some sports, such as motor racing, can be dangerous.
เราใช้ As ข้างหน้า โครงสร้าง Subject+verb เช่น
I didn't move anything. I left everything as I found it.
ฉันทิ้งทุกอย่างไว้เหมือนกับตอนที่ฉันพบมัน
They did as they promised. พวกเขาทำเหมือนกับที่พวกเขาสัญญาไว้
เปรียบเทียบการใช้ like and as ใน the following sentences
- You should have done it like this. (like + pronoun)
- You should have done it as I showed you. (as + s. + v.)
เรามีสำนวน as you know / as I said/ as she expected/ as I thought , etc.
Ex. As you know, it's Tom's birthday next week. ตามที่คุณทราบ
- Jane failed her driving test, as she expected. ตามที่เธอคาดไว้
โปรดสังเกตสำนวน as usual / as always ด้วย เช่น
- You're late as usual. คุณมาสายเช่นเคย
As (preposition) = 'in the position of' (เป็น, ในตำแหน่งของ) หรือ 'in the form of' (ในลักษณะของ, ในแบบของ) เช่น
- A few years ago I worked as a bus driver. (Don't use 'like a bus driver)
สำนวน regard...as = ถือว่า....เป็น
- I regard her as my best friend. ฉันถือว่าเธอเป็นเพื่อนสนิทของฉัน
