ในประโยคที่มีคำหรือกลุ่มคำบอกสถานที่ เช่น there, here, inside the room, before them, outside the temple etc. เราสามารถทำการสลับประธานและกริยา (Inversion) ได้ดังนี้
คำบอกสถานที่ + กริยาแท้ (finite verb) + ประธาน (subject)
E.g.
- Here comes the taxi. (V = comes S= taxi)
- There goes your money. (V= goes S= money)
- Inside the room were a lot of furniture. ( V = were S = furniture)
- There stands a huge monument to man's disregard for nature.
( V= stands S= monument (head noun)
- There's only one thing to do under these circumstances.
( 's ) (is) = verb S= thing (head noun)
